A coastal town within the capital of Tenerife, San Andrés has a coastal character and occupies a wide valley on the southern slope of the Anaga Valley. Considered one of the first settlements on the island, its location in the lee of the Anaga massif has characterized its climate and, with it, its biodiversity. Open to the ocean and with its own physiognomy thanks to its maritime tradition, San Andrés offers hiking lovers a pleasant place from which to approach the monumental complex of Anaga and stay close to the capital, without renouncing the desired tranquility. Lovers of hiking and maritime sports will find in San Andrés a good alternative to learn about the culture of Tenerife and the magic of its landscapes. San Andrés is a population entity of the municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Founded at the end of the 15th century, it is one of the oldest population centers in Tenerife, founded just two years after the conquest of the island and having also constituted an independent municipality throughout the 19th century. This makes it one of the most significant localities within the capital's municipality, possessing both a fishing and rural character, although its first facet is more popular.
In its half millennium of existence, the town of San Andrés has managed to preserve some of the most important historical heritage jewels of the municipality of Santa Cruz, and even of the island of Tenerife. It has monuments such as the Torre de San Andrés, the parish church or the old Estévez School, although the town is better known for being some of the most popular beaches in the municipality: Las Teresitas (10 min on foot) and Las Gaviotas (10 min by car). The town of San Andres has all kinds of shops and a huge gastronomic range, full of restaurants of all kinds, especially specialized in fish and shellfish where you can taste typical local dishes. Las Teresitas is the best-known and most touristic beach in the city of Santa Cruz, offering facilities and hotel services. It is a beach artificially transformed in the 1970s on a pre-existing beach of black volcanic sand. It was filled with sand brought from the Sahara desert to expand its extension, also building a breakwater dam to prevent the waves. La Teresitas is located at a distance of approximately 7 km from the center of Santa Cruz and extends along 1.3 kilometers, with a width of 80 meters full of fine sand.
It is the perfect alternative to disconnect in its calm waters, and the ideal option to spend a day with family or friends: play sports, take a walk, sunbathe, lie under the shade of its palm trees or enjoy the wide gastronomic offer that They offer its eight beach bars and the bars and restaurants of the nearby town of San Andrés, are just some of the many options it offers. The proximity to the Tropic of Cancer, the action of the trade winds and an average temperature of 21º do the rest to be able to enjoy Las Teresitas throughout the year. Las Gaviotas is a small black volcanic sand beach nestled at the foot of a cliff, very close to Las Teresitas beach. It is reached via the Las Gaviotas road that starts from the TF-121. At the height of the beach there is a detour that connects with an esplanade set up as a car park and which in turn serves as a connection via a path to another adjacent beach, Playa Chica. The cove is also known because it is suitable for nudism, as well as for practicing sports such as surfing or b
