Full Description: The house is a detached 4 bedroom property with lot area 406m2 and construction area 219m2 excluding the 65m patio and 12m terrace. We built the first part in 2001 and extensively remodelled in 2007/8, adding more space to the master bedroom and living room, and added a garage, study/quiet room, secluded terrace and patio, installed high quality bronzed aluminium windows and mirrored doors to built in wardrobes, water tank and pump, plus hot water tank.
Upstairs comprises a large master bedroom with exceptional views over the Central Valley to the Gulf of Nicoya on the west coast and spectacular sunsets.
Panoramic windows provide vistas to the west and north. We look over a grassed area and coffee plantation to the west before the valley and western mountains in en echelon ridges, with many trees in the vista to the north.
The master bedroom has a large en suite shower room with sandblast design glass window.
The second bedroom upstairs also has built in wardrobes with mirrored doors.

The location is very secure: The property is bounded by high walls and a fence and we have had no incidents in the 7 years since it was built.
The house has a complete alarm system (ADT - wired to a monitor station) with abundance motion sensors and door and grill contacts which can be selectively excluded as required. The grills are decorative and screen all windows except sitting room which has grills on internal door and window. The dining room grill slides away so both rooms can have patio view without grills. The master bedroom is built out so there is no need for grills on these panoramic windows.
The construction is very robust; with steel frame in reinforced concrete beam and block walls throughout. The synthetic tile roof has an underlying metal frame and grid.
There is a large 1100litre (underground) water tank with pump and hot water tank as a back up to the main supply in the event of shortage/or low supply. The phone lines have hi speed internet capability and cable TV is also available.
The neighbourhood families are all one family who parents owned most of the hillside, most are artists. To the west the hillside, coffee plantation etc. all the way to the Montealto school is owned by our other neighbour. They plan to keep the flat area to the west for the family recreation use, not to build.
The house access is through a relatively narrow garden with plant borders either side of the car blocks. This provides a secluded aspect and few are aware of this spacious property and commanding views it offers.
It is about 10 minutes from the European school (depending on traffic) and less than 10 minutes from central Heredia. San Rafael has great climate with no need for air conditioning or heating, with good access to San Jose, Heredia and local facilities, but without the downsides of a central city location. The owner moved just 5 minutes walk away to a smaller house as he no longer needs this large family home.
