. The apartment is on 3 floors (plus a huge, flowery terrace) and faces South (translation: sun all day) towards a lush green valley. It is in a beautiful, historic building in Orte. For those of you who don't know where that is (or only know it from the highway signs), Orte is 35-45 minutes north of Rome by train. I commute into Rome every day and it has been great. The Orte train is very frequent and brings to you Tiburtina, Termini (and directly to Fiumicino).
First, the apartment... Beautiful. It has 2 bedrooms (perhaps three if you are creative), each with their own bathroom. Upstairs at the entrance, you come into a kitchen (complete with dishwasher)/living room with a beautiful stone arch, and a bedroom with a bathroom built-in to the room under another stone arch. In the middle floor there is a small bed, a boiler room and a room with the washing machine. On the bottom floor there is a bedroom with a fireplace, piano, and bathroom-in-a-cave with hydromassage, as well as a huge terrace full of flowers, a second kitchen (which includes a wood-burning oven for pizzas and bread), and two stone rooms used for storage.
Orte is a relatively unknown, small and sweet medieval town which is extremely well connected by train to Rome (also to Florence, Perugia, etc.). There are constantly festivals and saints days, and in the upper Lazio region there is always some festival or 'sagra' to explore. After having lived in Rome, a city I really love, it has been a great experience to live in Orte - extremely green and peaceful.
This apartment would be a great place for a family, for a few people wanting to share an apartment in a place outside the city, for a writer... It has really felt like a get-away retreat, and I am sad to be leaving it.
